Administrative Structure
International Partners
22 international partners joined the United States in supporting ODP. Some ODP members consisted of a single country; in other cases partner countries combined, the resulting consortium then taking a single ODP membership. The table below shows the number of times participants from each ODP member sailed in the shipboard scientific party (including Co-Chief Scientists) aboard JOIDES Resolution. Although the memoranda of understanding between the United States and each ODP member specified the number of shipboard births to which that member was entitled, final total numbers of participants varied because ODP members joined the program at different times and, on a few occasions, a member was not able to provide a participant with appropriate expertise to fill a berth to which they were entitled.

Notes:
1. The ESF Consortium for Ocean Drilling (ECOD) was composed of Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
2. The Pacific Rim Consortium (PACRIM) consisted of Australia, Canada, Chinese Taipei and South Korea.
3. The People's Republic of China joined ODP as an Associate Member in 1998, hence the low representation.
4. USSR (later Russia) was a member of ODP only from 1991 to 1993.
5. When JOIDES Resolution operated in waters claimed by a country that was not a member of ODP, it was customary to sail one or more observers from the host country. These individuals usually sailed as contributing members of the shipboard scientific party. Countries represented in the "Other" category include: Angola, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Fiji, Ghana, Honduras, India, Ireland, Israel, Mexico, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sultanate of Oman, Tonga, and Venezuela.
