Program Planning

Work covered in the upcoming U.S. federal fiscal year was carried out in accordance with an annual "Program Plan" developed by Joint Oceanographic Institutions, Inc. (JOI) in consultation with the Program Officer at the National Science foundation (NSF) and approved in writing by the NSF Contracting Officer. Each Program Plan was prepared and submitted one year in advance and addressed the following:

• Programmatic goals
• Scheduled activities
• Scheduled ship operations, staffing, and organizational plans
• Budgets
• Scientific objectives defined by JOIDES
• Major planning and review activities
